Discovery Day 2008

Discovery Day in the Yukon ( which is a Holiday ) and the weather was nice .... so Bella and I we went for our personal discovery tour around Carcross.
First we checked out the smallest desert in the world ...

... like you can see at this sign.

Bella really liked it to run around in the sand ... I threw my shoes away and

we both had great fun to play. And what a wonderful view to Carcross!!!

Although Canadians like to play here with there toys like ATV's or Jeep's, some spots are still untouched! And I figured out that I just lost my car and house key in this desert ... great ... tracked back the whole way I came ... over fresh ATV prints ... and found it! I was so super HAPPY!!!!

View to the mountains from Carcross Beach.

The old Whitepass Railway Bridge.

Nice combination ...

And Bella found herself a new doghouse ... and she followed the advice from my dad: If you buy a house, the three most important things are ... location, location, location ( and view )!

Spirit Lake ... super clear water!

Emerald Lake ... one with the most beautiful colours!

I followed the advice from my friend Theo and tried to check out Lewes Lake ... but I am not sure, if this is really Lewes Lake ...

... but definitely very nice there ...

... with those clay hills!

So, you can see, we had really a good time and enjoied the sun and the wonderful landscape of this area ... and the great icecream in Carcross too :-)

August 2008

A summer month in the Yukon. But my plans to be out every weekend were destroied by the weather here. Too cold and too wet for this time of the year. Some locals were already kidding by saying that we had a mild winter this summer! Too bad.
But I managed to do some little hiks and had a real dog month. First the dog from my girlfriend Stefanie - Spot - got sick. And because she is a wildernis guide, he staied with Bella and me during her Kanoe and Hiking trips.
Than I found two dogs at the Campground running around and tried to find the owner ... called the mushers in my region, the Yukon Quest Office send mails out with their pictures and I went on the Radio to make an announcement ... and yes, we found the owner. I was very happy about it and I hope that she will take better care about those two in the future.
Work is going well .... you can see that we are more like a factory sell store. On one of the pictures you can also see the roaster ... but I should take a better picture of that.

A wonderful view from Whitemountain down to Little Atlin Lake.

Chance ... one of the dogs I found ...

... and his buddy Mike. I was so happy that I could find the owner!

Here is the Roastery where I work now .... I know that it isn't a great picture ...

... also this one isn't the best, but may be enough to give an impression?! I promise that I will take more and better pictures!

Bella and Spot ( the dog from my girlfriend Stefanie which was sick and was taking care of ) are sharing the "hot spot" under my dining table.

Summer time in the Yukon ... one has really to enjoy it ... only the black flies gave me hard time!

View in my "garden" behind the cabin where I have my barbecue grill and my sun flowers ... I still wait for them to bloom!

The view from Mount Lorne and Bella enjoying her milkbone!

I did my first sourdough bread ... was not too bad.
